Our Story

Elliot Rabin, owner and founder of the Peter Elliot specialty shops, is among the finest of New York’s independent retailers. Known as a pioneer in the industry for his energy and keen creativity, Mr. Rabin’s passion for tailored clothing is matched only by his sincere commitment to quality and his superior customer service, the benchmark of each of his stores.

Rabin followed his formal education at the Citadel and the University of London with a stint servicing his country as an Infantry Captain in the U.S. Army. During this time Mr. Rabin embarked on his first retail venture, Harry’s Bar, in Munich, Germany. Upon returning stateside in 1970, he set about earning his fashion stripes. His hard-won disciplines and creativity helped Mr. Rabin achieve great success initiating the landmark Saturday’s Generation boutique at Bloomingdale’s flagship store in New York City. He lent his talents to several design houses including Pucci, Givenchy, Oscar de la Renta.

Mr. Rabin’s vision of opening his own store became a reality in 1977, launching his concept of men’s clothing on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Another shop soon followed in the mid-80s named Down Home America, which highlighted American sportswear along with the now whimsical trademark Peter Elliot stores are known for.

As the Peter Elliot label gained prominence and notoriety, Mr. Rabin made the move to Madison Avenue taking his place amongst the world’s premier retailers. Peter Elliot Women opened at 1071 Madison Avenue and is run by his sister Eileen Sorota.

In 2005, the Peter Elliot Group expanded to 997 Lexington Avenue with Peter Elliot Blue. Built around the navy blazer as its signature concept, it is just one of the many items Blue carries for both men and boys outfitting the best-dressed lads and dads in the City.

Through all of Mr. Rabin’s ventures and achievements, his greatest pride and joy is not his legacy printed on each store awning but rather than the joy reflected in his son, Joshua Blue.

International Chic with a Québécois Touch.

After years of practice, Romy has found that gently taming and suggesting shape yields the most elegant results. Even when she started small with wallets back in 1987, she always matched her meticulousness with curiosity. Travelling around the globe, she has studied various techniques and designs that have helped her cultivate a singular yet international style. Today, she has a few apprentices of her own and spends most of her time crafting with them in her Montréal studio. She still makes time to learn new techniques and exhibits at tradeshows all around the world.
